Preston Johnston founded Fathom + Form in 2018 with the belief that when the attention is on the process, the product can be almost anything. Preston's formal education was at the University of Colorado where he received a bachelor’s degree in Architecture. He furthered his technical background with an associate’s degree in Woodworking and a vocational degree in Traditional Wood Boat Building in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan until he moved to Los Angeles in 2013.

Using his design background and knowledge of woodworking, he teamed up with a custom furniture maker, Westin Mitchell Design Group, for several years fostering an introduction

into high-end residential fabrication, and more importantly, the artisan building

community in Los Angeles.
